Blue-banded Bee

Amegilla Cingulata

Australian Native bee found in the Winton area that has a very unique and striking appearance with opalescent blue stripes. This is a female as it only has four blue bands, males have five. They can sting but not aggressive, they have a more rapid movement compared to other bees. They are solitary creatures- females using burrows unlike honey bees which live in colonies. A cute fact: males will cling close to eachother on flower stems at night for company.
