Calosoma Beetle

Calosoma schayeri

A vibrant character in Winton, this beetle can be found throughout central Queensland usually after good rain. They are voracious hunters of other insects, mainly focused on caterpillars. They have bright metallic emerald colours. They produce a foul-smelling spray from the glands near the tip of the adomen.  Same Coleoptera family as the Scarab beetle in Egypt.
